An HDII editorial - published 6/19/2026 · 2 min read

The Adventures of Elliot is only as hard as you tell it to be. Team Asano's Zelda-style adventure puts a difficulty setting front and center, and the gap between them is enormous. On HDII it sits at 5.4/10 from 13 ratings, the middling score of a game whose challenge is mostly your own choice.
Easy mode barely resists
Players agree easy mode is a walkover. You can power through most of the game with two weapons and the odd potion, rarely under real threat. Normal isn't much tougher: comfortable, classic top-down adventuring that seldom punishes a slip.
Hard is where it wakes up
The common path is to start gentle, find it too soft, and crank it up. Hard mode is where the combat finally bites: enemies hit harder, healing is scarce, and the optional caves demand real planning. There is even a medal for beating the game on very hard without lowering it.
Accessible by design
None of this is a knock. It's a Zelda-style adventure, one of gaming's most welcoming formats. The puzzles are clever but rarely brutal, and the chatty companion keeps you from ever getting truly stuck.
Is The Adventures of Elliot Hard? Final Verdict
Not by default. At 5.4/10 it's a moderate, approachable adventure: trivial on easy, breezy on normal. Player ratings run from 3 to 10, which tells the whole story. If you want it to fight back, pick hard, and it becomes a genuinely worthy challenge.
